Beverly, MA – (October 18th, 2022) – Sciessent, a leading provider of customized antimicrobial, odor adsorption, anti-pilling, and water repellent technologies, recently collaborated with longtime partner, Comfort Line™, to incorporate Agion® Antimicrobial on their Central Line Securement Garments. These garments were the subject of the Johns Hopkins Children’s Center clinical study, Use of Central Line Securement Garments in the Infant & Toddler Population to Reduce CLABSI. This study was conducted by the nursing teams at Bloomberg 9 South.
Protection of the central line and dressing is essential in preventing central line-associated blood stream infections (CLABSIs). The purpose of this study was to evaluate the usability of securement garments in infants and children less than or equal to 5 years old by surveying nursing staff and parents. All eligible patients were given a Comfort Line™ central line garment with Sciessent Agion® Antimicrobial to wear throughout the hospitalization.
The study demonstrated that securement garments are successful in protecting the central lines in infants and toddlers while securing the central line away from hands and/or mouths. Nurses, Michelle Mowry and Emily Warren were awarded the NCN First Place Clinical Category Certificate of Achievement in recognition for conducting this study.
“Clinical studies are an essential aspect of validation, efficacy, and development for any product within the healthcare environment,” said David Austin, Owner & Co-Founder of Comfort Line, LLC. “Unbiased feedback from nursing staff, patients, and families provide broader insight into patient use cases. Comfort Line is committed to supporting the healthcare providers and patients managing central line safety challenges.”
Mr. Austin went on to say, “Sciessent has provided unwavering support for the antimicrobial needs of our medical garment over the past eight years. Our medical garment started out with a single pediatric central line patient – our infant son. We know these medical garments have a valuable role to play in central line safety and device protection. We are honored for the opportunity to support this clinical study and incredibly grateful to the nursing staff at Johns Hopkins Children’s for conducting it.”
